Maple Class News

Welcome back to not only a brand new year but a brand new decade and a new term in Maple Class!

I hope you have had a lovely Christmas and are ready for all of our new learning adventures in the coming half term.

In English we are looking at cumulative stories and will be focussing on The Enormous Turnip, There was an Old Lady who swallowed a Fly (an already firm favourite from the very beginning of the school year) and The Shopping Basket. We will be exploring these stories through drama, story retelling and rewriting.

We are looking forward to sharing our favourite stories with each other over the coming weeks and completing book reviews to make our story sessions even more special. We do love story time.

In maths we will be working on number including addition and subtraction and missing number problems. We will be using money and also exploring the halving of objects and numbers.

In Science we will be focussing on the weather and the changing seasons. The children will have the opportunity to explore these changes first hand at Forest School and will be creating weather logs in the classroom to demonstrate their understanding.

We are really excited about our sharing day on the 21st January and look forward to seeing family members in the classroom working with your children. We promise the work won’t be too hard but if you find it a little challenging your child will be able to help you!!

Thank you to everyone who sends in their reading diary every day. This is so important! Please can your child read at home at least 3 times each week. This not only helps to encourage their love of reading because they see that reading is valued at home but will also help when they share their understanding of stories in class.

Again welcome back to the new half term. Keep on working hard everybody!!
