The purpose of Home Learning is to give children the choice to choose from a range of varied and appropriate activities. These activities are from different areas of the curriculum and allow the children to follow their own interests and build upon new concepts. The children are given a choice from a range of activities per half term. The activities that the children can choose from are based around the class topic or a quality text. This enables parents to be informed of the learning that is currently happening within their child’s class. The amount of optional activities that the children can complete per half-term is dependent on age expectations.
Some of the Home Learning activities can be completed independently and some require some support from parents or an older person. All activities are open-ended and can be extended. There is a balance of independent activities and those requiring support. Each activity is designed to inform parents of the learning that is currently happening in class.
Children have the opportunity to show their learning and for it to be discussed in the classroom, enabling the children to receive instant feedback from both their peers and staff. The aim of these feedback sessions is that it will spur other children on to complete the activities.
